How St. Tropez works on the skin
The tanning agent DHA works with natural bacteria on the surface of the skin called amino acids to produce a tanned effect. On application the DHA has a natural chemical reaction with the amino acids to stain the skin brown. DHA does not penetrate into the Epidermis. It stains the dead skin cells which are then shed constantly on a daily basis which is why a self-tan will fade.
